Ten WaysTo Ride Up A Successful Portfolio Career

In most village economies, you will rarely find a person who does just one thing. A farmer may double up as the vet. The grocer may well be the fortune teller. Career News obtained an social impact and shared the best suited tips to polish your career profile.

There’s rarely any money paid for these informal services. And none of them have the degrees or qualifications, of course. But they have the knowledge and experience. And it works out quite well in the end; even had a qualified vet been around, the rural folk may not have been able to afford him.

Assess your hobbies and interests. Spend time reflecting on the types of activities that give you the most satisfaction, the most joy

Examine your educational background. Besides the credentials you’ve received from your educational experiences, make a list of your favourite courses or subjects

Review your work history. Look for the common threads that bind your past together

Deconstruct past experiences into skill sets

Weigh the pros and cons. There’s risk involved in all activities, but managing a portfolio career carries additional risks.

Develop a plan. The best way to deal with some of the common problems people face when foraying into a portfolio career is developing a plan of action.

Get organized. One of the keys to your portfolio career success is having a system.

Have a support system. It’s absolutely crucial, especially in the early phases, to have the support of family and friends.

Use your network. Just as with traditional job-hunting, your network of personal contacts will be extremely beneficial to you when you have a portfolio career.

Always act professional. Your reputation is your lifeblood in a portfolio career, and the more positive word-of-mouth you receive from performing your jobs professionally, the more opportunities will come your way.

Millenials and Their Ruling World

A lot has been discussed about the entry of Generation Y or the Millenials into the workforce. They are a lot different from the older knowledge workers and all set to shake up offices and organizations, say experts. Career News tells you more about this charismatic bunch of professionals

The workplace is not what it used to be earlier. Prior to 1998, there were essentially three generations working together with a reasonable degree of harmony. While traditionalists, baby boomers and Gen Xers are certainly distinct and each has their pros and cons, the millennials have developed work characteristics and tendencies from doting parents, structured lives and contact with diverse people. Millennials are used to working in teams and want to make friends with people at work. MD of Kelly Services added that to effectively interact with or manage millennials, it is critical to understand what drives them and shapes the value of their generation. As they are more technology savvy, their preferred mode of communication is instant messenger followed by e-mails and phone calls. They have enjoyed close relationships with parents, teachers and mentors and open electronic access to virtually anyone. They are therefore more willing to circumvent institutional hierarchies to have their voices heard at the top by providing ‘bounded access’ to managerial levels and above through formal 'meet and greet'’ occasions or informal town hall-type meetings. Millennials need to feel that their ideas are being heard while still working within the larger organization's structure.
Today, organizations constitute a large number of a younger workforce, so a large percentage of stakeholders within organizations are millenials. It has been found that even in new age businesses, 80-90 per cent of talented workforce comprise of millenials. Although they do not have many years of experience, they certainly have great innovative ideas and energy to implement, qualities which are widely accepted by their target audience landed by director of GlobalHunt.

FOR A BETTER TOMORROW
In a challenging economy, many young workers are just thankful to have a job. But smart companies are developing strategies to maximize the potential of their entry-level employees — members of the millennial generation — to gain full value from their workforce and minimize turnover as the economy rebounds. What sets them apart at the workplace is their ‘sixth sense’ when it comes to incorporating technology to interact with the world, coupled with an expectation that organizations will moduld themselves to accommodate their needs.
So what are some of the ways through which organizations can keep them moving?
  • Millennials want to look up to their leaders, learn from them and receive daily feedback. They always wish to have the leader’s best investment of time in their success.
  • Focus on skills: Focus on what they are good at. This group is energetic, bright, and fearless and can multi-task better than anyone. They are technologically-savvy and are used to a 24/7 environment. Instead of complaining about the ways in which this group differs from past generations, use their strengths to your advantage.
  • Provide a fun, employee-centred workplace: Millennials want to enjoy their work. They want to enjoy their workplace. Employers need to worry if the millennial employees aren’t laughing, going out with workplace friends for lunch and helping plan the next company event or committee.
  • Make the work assigned to them more meaningful: Nothing turns off a millennial faster than work that has no perceived value. Leaders need to provide them with tasks that are more meaningful and have variety.
  • Challenge them: Millennials want learning opportunities. They want to be assigned to projects they can learn from. A recent Randstad employee survey found that 'trying new things' was the most popular item. They are looking for growth, development and a career path.
  • "This is a generation of talented people who wants to be heard and this need can be supplemented through a coaching-mentoring model. Organizations need to have credible mentors who can satisfy the impatience and curiosity levels of this workforce. The leader of the past knew how to tell, but the leader of the future will know how to ask.

The Millennials have a 'can-do' attitude about tasks at work and seek feedback about how they are performing on a regular basis – even daily. Positive and confident, millennials are ready to take on the world!

How To Write Successful TSA KSA Responses

Guest Post by Jason Kay

Writing TSA KSA answers makes many people nervous - mainly because they don't know how to respond to these questions. But with the right knowledge you'll find that writing a winning answer to any KSA is a breeze. Career News brought the striking advantages of writing skills of TSA KSA.

1. Be complete. It is important to answer each KSA completely. Simply saying, "Yes, I have that skill," will get you nowhere. Treat each KSA like a news article: who, what, why, where, when, and how are all integral parts of the story. Tell the TSA what knowledge or skill you have that satisfies their requirements; where, when, how, and why you got it; and who you got it from. And don't forget the other how: how your skill relates to what the employer is looking for.

2. Provide concrete examples. A vague assertion that you have the necessary skills for the job is not going to convince a prospective employer. One of the most important aspects to successful KSA responses is providing specific examples of where and when you gained the experience. Be sure to tie your answer back to the KSA statement by stating how your examples give you the skills needed for the job.

3. Be concise. The TSA is not interested in your creative writing abilities, so keep the fluff to a minimum. Answer each KSA in plain language, so that your answers are simple and easy to follow. There is a fine line between answering a KSA completely and sounding like a pompous windbag. Although your KSA answers should be as long as it needs to be to fully answer the question, most answers should be ½ to one page in length.

4. Think outside the box. Even if you think you don't have any experience to satisfy a certain KSA, don't leave it blank. Instead, consider other areas of your life that may have given you the necessary skills. Not every KSA must be answered purely with job experience. Training, volunteer work, internships, and academic projects and awards may also demonstrate that you satisfy the requirements of the position.

5. Sell yourself! KSAs give you an opportunity to set yourself apart from other applicants. Use these documents to sell your best qualities - and paint your worst in a more pleasing light. If your answers demonstrate confidence in your abilities, an employer will be much more likely to believe that you can do the job.

6. Edit! Most professional documents require editing and proofreading to verify that they are free of errors. However, unlike other professional documents, your answers to the KSA statements have a lot riding on them: they are your only chance at a good first impression. Therefore, you need to take pains to make sure every word is in its place - no typos, misspellings, or discrepancies between your resume and your KSA answers.

Recruitment Agencies May Let you Get A Job

Are you feeling tired and frustrated after seeing no results from your job hunting efforts? You attend interview after interview, and you wait patiently day by day to receive a phone call from an employer with good news. But the call never came. Soon, your patience starts to wear thin, and you feel tired and frustrated. Perhaps even a tad angry that you didn't get the job you feel you deserve. Career News finds some usefulness of recruitment agencies for student, looking for jobs.

Job recruitment agencies have active customer bases. Their customers are the employers. Whenever someone recommended by the recruitment agency is hired, the agency gets paid a commission. The amount of commission depends of private agreements between the employer and the agency. In other words, the primary function of the job agency is to serve the human resource needs of the organization. The faster the agency finds the right match, the faster they get paid.

So in order to make the right match quickly, job agencies are known to keep a database of potential candidates. When a job opportunity arises, the recruitment agency will attempt to contact job candidates to see if they are still looking for a job. If these candidates are still available, and if they have the right qualifications, they may be called in by the agency for a quick interview. In some cases, the positions are so urgent that the agency will conduct the interview over the phone, and send the candidate directly over.

If you are feeling frustrated because your job hunting efforts haven't been fruitful, try contacting a recruitment agency. For all you know, your dream job may just be sitting around waiting for the ideal candidate - you!

As the job seeker, you do not have to pay any fees when you engage the services of a recruitment agency. The employers are the ones who pay the agencies, not you. The agencies will also do all the coordination work for you. If you have the right qualifications, they will fix up the interview appointment for you, and let you know the date and time. Top recruitment agencies may even call you up after an interview to find out if an interview went smoothly or not.

If an interview is unsuccessful, the recruitment agency will then look at other opportunities to see if there is a good fit for you. This process continues until the agency matches you with a job.

When you contact a recruitment agency, bear in mind that you have to play your part as well. Make the job of the recruitment agency easier by providing them lots of useful information about yourself. For example, testimonials from previous employers will help. Also, help them see how you qualify for certain jobs. Perhaps you have been taking private classes. Or maybe you find yourself having a strong passion for certain types of jobs. Make such information known to the recruitment agency. They will be better equipped to help promote you when they speak with the employers.

If you can do that, you are ready to enjoy the full benefits provided by recruitment agencies.

My First Haiku Award

It was the day when almost winter started to get itself ready to knock
the door in kolkata, and weather was perfect enough to prove the
pre-winter-festive mood.
That was the very end of the October and the session was tremendously enchanted.

It was time am talking about when Kolkata got the opportunity to met
the Haiku Master from japan.
She came on the very crucial time of Kolkata riot on October,2007.
To be fact, that was a golden chance for Kolkata to prove its one of
the color in front of her.

October, 2007 was one of my the most memorable moment in my life when
I got the opportunity to receive the award from Haiku Master(from
japan) by herself.
The day, NKK, a Kolkata based japan consulate sponsored, japanese
teacher student organization, organized such a beautiful program. it
was the day of full of learning session. I was pursuing my final year
in RKMIC, Kolkata. I and few of my classmates were requested by my
faculty to attend the session on haiku(japanese poetry) because that
session was really for senior japanese students and japanese teacher
across the India. We few were really happy and felt so proud to be
part of that.

At 60′clock It was started and she began with a good intro of herself
and her fellow students who were working on Haiku(japanese poetry)
Since a long time.

The first half she taught the haiku practice and the formation of
haiku, initialized by the history of haiku. Technically its actually a
small poetry consisting 3-4 lines containing 3 words in each. Over
online so many haiku s are available. It is very easy to construct But
at the same time it is nothing but very brief of your thoughts
consisting full of your emotions. The expressions that you will throw
through haiku lines could prove the focus point of your expectation
and could bring the drama also. At the same time the essence of purity
of your thoughts will be brought into the limelight of listeners.

there are rules of reading haiku in front of listeners:
1. you have to read it twice.
2. voice must be filed with emotions as per expected.
3. haiku name and haiku writer’s name should be announced at the beginning.
4. english or japanese, it should follow the mandatory rules of necessity.
5. no criticism or explanation after haiku reading.

The second half of the session was practice where almost all the
seniors and japanese teachers were ready to spell out their haiku(s).
At the same time we were also preparing on the basis of teaching(taken
on the first half on that day it self). Finally i took the initiative
to go though my haiku when it was almost ready to deliver, mean while
haiku master was putting down which was getting highly populated.

Finally at the end of the session she declared the name of the winner
of the night.
We 3 of our japanese class-met were there. and when she pronounced the
name of mine, it was the moment i just cant explain. the time i was
totally blank for the time being. In a fraction of second I felt like
I was out of this universe.

actually i wrote the ZIZI HAIKU that she explained later…
it was,

A big red canvas
thousands are crying
in silence.
She was so happy after heaing this haiku, just after completion of my
speech she replyed, “yes! i also cant imagine kolkata could show me
the red in term of some separate way.”
It was as highly appreciated as I had never imagine ever in my life.
That night onwards i had fall in love with haiku and start writing so
many.
In NKK magazine also haiku used to published, written by our our
senior japanese fellows.

Haiku is the most beautiful way of expressing feelings, I had seen. It
could be one of the way of writing poetry in japan or anything. But
the most important thing is the relationship between the size and
meaning. It is inversely proportional.

That was the first award I go from some delegates I dreamed about.
That was the lucky and as well last opportunity for kolkata it self
and for us also for attending such sessions.
The haiku master never returned back in Kolkata again.
